Description
Brook Stickleback – Culaea inconstans – to 3″ (7.62 cm)
The native range of this species in the wild is primarily the northern 1/3 of the continental U.S. east of the Rocky Mountains, as well as all of Canada east of the Rocky Mountains. There, they are found in the cooler waters of water bodies of just about any size. They are generally found in association with thick vegetation.
In the aquarium, they are somewhat shy inhabitants. They move about very methodically, and are constantly on the lookout for small food items!
Great community fishes, they are not aggressive unless spawning. They can be kept in groups ranging from all males to all females, and any combination in between! They can also be kept peacefully with just about any other fish in the aquarium, including: darters, small catfish, other minnows and many, many tropical and cool-water aquarium fishes!
