Captive Bred Spotfin Shiner – Cyprinella spiloptera – to 4.5″ (11.43 cm)
These Spotfin Shiners are ones that we have captive-spawned and raised ourselves! Size range of the specimens vary. You can select smaller or larger individuals. The price is the same for both. These will grow into adults and have the same color and patterning as our regular Spotfin Shiners. All are hardy and are being fed prepared aquarium foods, like flakes or crumbles. These are active fishes and will make a great addition to your current or new aquarium!
The native range of this species in the wild is primarily the northeastern quarter of the continental United States. There, they are found in medium- to large-sized rivers, and in large lakes.
In the aquarium, they are very active inhabitants! They like to swim actively in the midwater, as well as school with other Spotfin Shiners and other minnows.
Great community fishes, they are not aggressive unless in breeding condition. And then, skirmishes with other minnows most often result in no damage to either participant. They can be kept in groups ranging from all males to all females, and any combination in between! They can also be kept peacefully with just about any other fish in the aquarium, including: darters, small catfish, other minnows and many, many tropical and cool-water aquarium fishes!

Preferred Temperature Range: 72-76°F (22.2-24.4°C) (room temperature water.)
Water Hardness: Medium to Hard.
Type of Tank Setup: Freshwater (cold) or Freshwater (tropical) / Species or Community.
Food: Flake, Live or Frozen.
Swimming Level: Mid-water.
Parasite Pre-Treated?: No, as it is not necessary. These fish have been completely born and raised in a closed-system aquarium environment, free from parasites.
Special Requirements: None. Treat as you would any standard tropical fish.
Notes: These fish can be very active. A school of them makes a great addition to any tank! Also, males develop great color in the fins and on the body!
